There is no need to be contactable 24/7 – days off are days off and you are encouraged to keep it that way. Reasonable billing expectations and achievable bonus incentives

We do not set arbitrary billing targets for our staff (e.g. 6 billable hours per day) as was commonplace in the “old days” and still proliferates through many law firms. Rather, we set dollar value targets in collaboration with each practitioner which are in accordance with the kind of work they do, their experience, salary expectations and career progression goals. All professional staff from first year lawyers to senior associates have an incentive scheme in their employment contract which rewards them with quarterly bonuses on a stepped percentage basis for professional fees receipted in excess of 3 X their salary package. Not only are these targets achievable, but they often result in our lawyers earning significantly more than their base wage in any given year.

We view the time it takes to coach and mentor our team as an investment, not a cost. We also place a high value on continued learning and upskilling, which is why we support our lawyers with regular CPD learning, as well as opportunities to pursue their Masters and Specialist Accreditation. Both the excellent solicitors who currently work for Robbins Watson and the many former employees that have gone on to become partners, judges and specialists is testament to our culture of valuing learning and professional development.
